When you are meditating, it is best to not be alone. When you are meditating alone, your mind is more likely to wander and cause you to fall asleep. Falling asleep while meditating can often lead to deep sleep all together or partial waking up. This is why you should listen to an mp3 of your favorite relaxing track before starting. It will help you fall asleep faster and easier.
Another one of my meditation mistakes to avoid is paying attention to the sounds around you. Paying attention to what is going on around you and who is around you is very distracting. Some people like to have music playing in the background while they are meditating. This may be fine for them but if you are trying to achieve a better mindset and are meditating then you need to ignore everything around you and focus only on yourself. Paying attention to other things will only cause you to lose focus and fall asleep.
One last thing to avoid is falling asleep while inhaling and exhaling. When you inhale and exhale while you are meditating you are blocking out sound and thus stimulating your brain. This is a big mistake and can lead to you falling asleep. So make sure that you listen to the music playing in the background and that you are focusing on your breathing and nothing else.
