The Importance of Mediation Service

Don’t hire a dabbler – someone who does a traffic ticket case in the morning, a real estate closing in the afternoon, and your case in the middle; divorce is hard enough that you can hire someone who does it all day, every day; and don’t hire a lawyer who takes on more cases than he or she can handle; ask the lawyer what his or her typical caseload is. Many attorneys become frustrated and inefficient when they are handling more than 15 or 20 cases at once. When you consult with a lawyer for the first time, think about these topics to help you make the best decision.Learn more by visiting Mediation Service

If a previous client of the lawyer tells you that contacting the lawyer was complicated, or that the lawyer either did not answer calls or did not respond to emails within a reasonable amount of time, you should avoid the lawyer. Except in the best of cases, divorce is an uncomfortable and stressful experience. If you can’t contact your divorce attorney, or at least anyone on his or her team, your level of anger will skyrocket.

You can ask about a consulting fee when making your initial appointment with the divorce attorney. Few attorneys provide free initial appointments, but most seasoned divorce lawyers charge a consulting fee of $100.00 to $200.00, or charge their standard hourly rate.

For example, regardless of the duration of the meeting, I charge a flat $100.00 consulting fee with no additional hourly costs. Essentially, the consulting fee is used to “weed out” those who aren’t serious about working with me. Given that my average hourly rate is $200.00/hour and a typical consultation lasts about 90 minutes, my consultation fee is greatly reduced. As a result, you shouldn’t let a consulting charge deter you from meeting with a lawyer.
